The RED DOOR

Basic

What do you believe about the core doctrines (the foundational truths) of the Christian faith? That is to say, what do you believe about such things as who is God, who is Jesus, who is the Holy Spirit, what is prayer, why the Church, or what is the Bible? How can you be sure that what you believe about these things is true? Why is it even important that your belief about such things be true and right?

In 1 Timothy 4:16 Paul tells his disciple Timothy to watch his life and doctrine closely and that if he does both Timothy and those who hear him will experience salvation. What he is saying here, not just to Timothy but also to all believers, is that what you believe about God will profoundly affect how you, and those around you, will experience the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel sets us free but our capacity to experience this freedom is directly related to what we believe. Likewise, our capacity to share the gospel and the freedom of salvation with others is also directly related to what we believe. Bottom line…what we believe matters big time!!!

And that’s where Basic comes in. Basic covers, the core, key, indispensible truths of Christianity - the course is named Basic not because it is simple but because what we cover each week is deeply foundational to our faith. Over the 7 weeks of Basic, through teaching, discussion, questions and prayer your knowledge of God and what it means to be a Christian will profoundly deepen and subsequently so will your understanding and your experience of the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. And my friends is just flat out brilliant. Who wouldn’t want some of that?
